Today's blog is SO inspired by real life! Two weeks ago I came down with an attack of shingles -for those of you who don't know, shingles is a painful, nasty, itchy rash caused by having the chicken pox virus in your system. You can only get shingles if you've had chicken pox - why don't I feel lucky???? Anyway, the reason I mention something so un-Style Savvy is that it has had me thinkin' about summer and how I rely on camis, tanks, and vests to keep me cool........in Vegas we don't have much need for long sleeves until October, or shingles, make you want to cover up! So how do the freezing fashion forward find fun fashions to feel fresh, not frumpy?

Another "reach for it" way to put those shoulders and arms under wraps is the cardi. In neon or pastel, black or white, a button down dresses up long skirts or short shorts and has the added advantage of looking just as good slung over your shoulders when you hit the pavement as it did in the over-air conditioned restaurant. In even cooler versions of the cardi, the shrunken sweater, shrug or button-free looks are super stylish over bikinis and beachwear alike. Think Jackie O's fitted sweaters or Audrey Hepburn's slim shrugs and you've got the look.
So, necessity is STILL the mother of invention! Believe me, two weeks of tryin' to stay stylin' in long sleeves when it's 105 degrees outside will test anyone's cool! But for the rest of the summer, I'll be falling back on wardrobe must-haves like my denim jacket whenever I head to the movies or dinner, so maybe shingles ISN'T the worst thing in the world! Remember, "trend" is today, "style" is forever!
